Chuck Paine (born 1944) is an engineer by training and an artist by passion. He’s well known for his cruising yachts that exhibit excellent performance yet retain a sleek traditional aesthetic.

In 1973 he set up his yacht design studio on the East Coast and his first design, the Frances 26 was a minimalist and affordable boat he intended for himself. It’s estimated there are over 1000 boats of his design currently afloat.

Notable are his 6 sailing yachts he has built himself, ranging from sixteen feet to thirty feet.
